Abstract:
(4) Schlussbetrachtung. (Buch/Thomas Boll - ZPID)Presents theoretical, methodological, and empirical studies on the validity of Kohlberg's theory of moral development. The concept of moral stages, the relationship between content and structure of moral judgments, moral dilemmas, and the relationship between moral judgment and action are discussed as theoretical problems. From a methodological point of view, the focus is on developing a model for validating the theory and a coefficient for the degree of consistency between answer structures which are taken from empirical studies or which are constructed theoretically. Their use is demonstrated by referring to data from two studies on 294 and 1,053 vocational school students and are interpreted with reference to the validity of Kohlberg's theory. The Moralisches-Urteil-Test (M-U-T), a moral judgment test, which was used in the study, is examined for validity. Table of contents (translated): (1) Theoretical bases of the development of moral judgments (moral stages according to Piaget, the cognitive-developmental theory of L. Kohlberg, moral judgment and cognitive development, an excursus on moral development from a sociobiological perspective). (2) On the examination of the validity of theories (theory of science considerations on the validity of theories, a model on empirical validation of theories, correlations between theory and empirical data). (3) Empirical section (goals and study plan of pilot studies and main studies; empirical model analysis on the validity of the M-U-T; moral judgment, cognitive complexity, and political education; historical excursus on the reanalysis of the study undertaken in 1913). (4) Final comments. (Liam Gilmour - ZPID)
